What’s been happening:

I began my academic career at Bucknell University, where I completed the B.S. in Biology in 1955. In August of 1955 I married my wife Suzanne. We have three children: Michael, born in 1956; Thomas, born in 1959; and Monica, born in 1963. In 1960 I began full time graduate study at Pennsylvania State University, where I completed the MEd. in Biological Sciences in 1961 and the PhD in Entomology in 1964. Following completion of the PhD I accepted an appointment as Associate Professor of Zoology at Eastern Illinois University, where I spent 31 years teaching and conducting research until my retirement in 1995. My teaching included courses in Entomology, Animal Behavior and Systematic Zoology. I was promoted to Professor of Zoology in 1971 and served as Chairman of the Department from 1982 to 1988. My research in the ecology and systematics of Coleoptera has led to 50 publications in the scientific literature and 38 papers presented at scientific meetings. Since my retirement as Professor Emeritus I have continued to maintain an office in the Department of Biological Sciences at EIU, where I continue research and curatorial work in the Spooner-Riegel-Goodrich Insect Collection. Seasonal trips to southern Florida, where I maintain a winter residence, allow me to conduct field work in entomology throughout the year.
